Day Three: Today had us heading out to Joshua Tree National Park. Julie and I both thought it would be a great place to explore with our boys. Well, it took us a lot longer than we had anticipated to get there and once we were there, the boys weren't too impressed as all they could see was desert. (Definitely not what our northwest boys are used to when we say we are going to a park.) However, after checking in, getting a map, and making a game plan, we convinced the boys that there was fun to be had and once again, the moms were right! :o) We first pulled over at this little outlet and we let the boys get out...well there wasn't a lot there, but they were thrilled to be able to run around and look at rocks! Our next stop was at the Cholla Cactus Gardens where there was a trail we could take through all this really amazing vegetation. Then we stumbled upon these huge rock formations where Logan was just certain he found a fossil. So much climbing to do! However, at this point it was getting awfully toasty, so now it was Julie and I who were wanting to keep moving, I mean we still hadn't even seen any Joshua Trees. But lo and behold, they were right around the bend. We all tumbled out of the car and spent some time checking them out. It's just a whole different ecosystem than what we're used to. While we were checking out the very cool Joshua Trees, we came across a little lizard who was fast and really cute. Of course Logan and Charlie wanted to chase him, so they did. At one point we thought we had lost him, only to have him scurry out from a nearby plant right over Logan's foot!! I wish I had been able to capture his expression...it was priceless. After that it was time to get going, so we made a quick stop at McDonalds for lunch and then is was back to the resort for the evening to swim and relax!
One more place to check off the Bucket List!
Logan's tower of rocks...these boys would have stayed out here in the desert piling rocks on top of one another all day if we had let them.
The Cholla Cactus Gardens...so cool and unlike anything we had seen before.
Gigantic rocks...perfect for climbing on.
Logan's fossil...looks like a dino spine to me!
Finally...a Joshua Tree!
Our new little lizard friend.
And ending the day with a dip in the pool...I've been overwhelmed this trip with Logan's progress in the water. He used to be so afraid and unsure of himself. But now he's confident, eager, and simply in love with being not only in the water, but under the water as well. I'm so proud of him!
